This month’s Dolan Philanthropy Spotlight is Moms on the Run, an organization we cherish for the work and support they do in our community. Their mission is to provide support for everyday living expenses including (but not limited to) mortgages, rent, food, utilities, car expenses, insurance, and more, to help offset medical expenses and alleviate the financial stress of Northern Nevada women diagnosed with breast and gynecological cancer.
Originally started in 1999, the founders of Moms on the Run Barbara and JP Pinocchio witnessed the emotional, physical and financial difficulties that coincide while battling breast cancer. For that reason, The Pinocchio's put on a “little race” in hopes of raising $1,000 for local women battling breast cancer. That “little race” ended up bringing in over $100,000.
Today, Moms on the Run has more than 5,000 participants each year, allowing them to give back to the community with over $500,000 each year in assistance! Pinnochio’s Moms on the Run is their main event held every year on Mother’s Day. Other events held to raise money are:
- Ride for the Tatas- A motorcycle poker run, where everyone is decked out in pink. Attendees can win prizes for Best Dressed and Best of Show!
- Runaway for Life- Attendees enjoy a wine luncheon, a silent auction, and a fashion show that features some of the most beautiful and inspiring survivors.
- Pinkfest Tahoe- Bobo’s ski & Board hosts a day of professional ski & board instruction, breakfast, lunch, swag, raffles, and more all at beautiful Mt. Rose!
Each event has a little something for everyone of all types to enjoy! Since they first started in 1999, with the gracious support of the community, Moms on the Run has raised $4.5 million and helped 5,500 women in Northern Nevada! An amazing feat for an amazing cause.
Interested in supporting Moms on the Run? You are in luck! Pinnochio’s Mom on the Run will be held this Saturday, May 8th at Reno High School. This one-of-a-kind race offers a 5k, 10k, and ¼-mile Kidlet’s Race for the whole family to enjoy. This race is notorious for being goofy, so they encourage anyone and everyone to wear costumes! Life can be difficult. Moms on the Run understands that and has created an amazing organization for women whose lives have changed due to a cancer diagnosis. They make life a little easier for women who need support through a very tough time and here at Dolan Auto Group we believe in supporting our community, which is you.
If you are or know a woman who lives in the Northern Nevada area who has been diagnosed with breast or gynecological cancer, they can apply with Moms on the Run for assistance in covering everyday living expenses to offset medical bills. They review each woman’s application on an individual basis. All income levels qualify for assistance based on loss of wages and/or out-of-pocket expenses not covered by insurance.
