Welcome back to our 2nd Dolan Philanthropy Spotlight! This month: Donor Network West, an organization that we hold deeply in our hearts, truly saves lives. Their mission is to save and heal lives through organ and tissue donation for transplantation and research. Dolan Auto Group stands by their mission and encourages everyone interested to register to be a donor.
Donor Network West serves over 13 million people and assists in connecting a donor’s gift to those in need in 45 counties across Northern California and Northern Nevada. Coordinating organ and tissue procurement while providing support and services to families. Through the support of 175 hospitals, doctors, nurses, funeral homes, coroners, and medical examiners they are able to carry out their mission to save and heal lives.
Our goal is to help bring awareness to being a donor. We stand by their mission to help give someone a 2nd chance at life. Experiencing the need firsthand, our owner and founder of Dolan Auto Group, Tom Dolan was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis in both lungs and was givens months to live. He sat down for an interview with Connie Wray with more details on his experience. Knowing he wanted to do so much more he asked doctors, “What will help make me live? I don't want to hear about dying.” On a personal crusade to live, he was put on the waitlist for a transplant- where hope was given.
Due to the generosity of an organ donor, Tom Dolan was given a 2nd chance at life. Since his surgery and recovery, he has continued to help as many people as he can in our community and to spread the word to help bring awareness to being a donor with Donor Network West. There are many examples but one is pictured below in which he partnered with Renown to create the Thomas S. Dolan Pulmonary Rehabilitation Center.
Consider this, every 9 minutes people are added to the waitlist for transplants. A single donor can save up to 8 lives through organ donation, restore sight to 2 people through cornea donation, and heal as many as 75 lives through tissue donation.
