Automotive company Scion started in 2003 as a test lab for Toyota Motor Sales. Jim Lentz was its founder. Scion was designed to offer products that stood apart from the competition, including parent company Toyota's model offerings. Scion also took pride in offering a young audience an easier, more intuitive way to buy cars. After that point in time, Scion continued to innovate with the following model releases:

  • 2004: Scion xB and xA
  • 2005: Scion tC
  • 2008: Scion xB Redesigned; Scion xD released
  • 2011: Second Generation Scion tC released
  • 2012: Scion iQ released
  • 2013: Scion FR-S released
  • 2016: Scion iA and iM unveiled

Doug Murtha, VP of Scion from 2012-2015 said, Scion's mission from the beginning has always been to attract new buyers to Toyota through distinctively designed vehicles and a unique experience". It may not come as a surprise then, that the "company that paved the intersection of street culture and car culture" is now becoming more intersectional. The Scion iA iM and FR-S will be joining the Toyota family as the 2017 Toyota Yaris iA, 2018 Toyota Corolla iM, and 2017 Toyota 86, respectively. The spirit of Scion lives on in these new Toyota models.
