All across the country, people will be engaging in the annual tradition of traveling near and far to visit loved ones for the holidays. While the destination holds sweet promises, getting there can be anything but sweet. With some simple planning, however, even the trip there will have you "laughing all the way."
First, know alternate routes in the big cities you will encounter. Even if you plan your trip to avoid peak travel times, having millions of other drivers driving on roads they aren't familiar with is sure to result in an accident or two. If you plan ahead, though, you can avoid the major backups and time lost, by cruising like a local and taking a secondary route through the city until you've passed the accident scene.
Secondly, be aware of changing road conditions. The weather this time of year can be unpredictable, so be sure you're aware of weather that you might be driving through. Use extra caution, so you can enjoy reading the newspaper, not being a story in the newspaper.
